The Eight Positions is a duet featuring choreographed dance, improvisation, and video projection. The choreography is organized by the idea of there being eight available positions for two bodies (e.g. face-to-face, back-to-back, face-to-back) and the improvised sections are guided by such themes as separation and collision, the interpretation of language, the inevitability of return, and transformation through repetition. In its self-reflexive and indeterminate nature, this work creates a sort of palimpsest, formally established by the layering of media through live performance and projection, film and video.
