The Eight Positions or Could This Go On Forever? 2024
The Eight Positions is a duet featuring choreographed dance, improvisation, and video projection. The choreography is organized by the idea of there being eight available positions for two bodies (e.g. face-to-face, back-to-back, face-to-back) and the improvised sections are guided by such themes as separation and collision, the interpretation of language, the inevitability of return, and transformation through repetition. In its self-reflexive and indeterminate nature, this work creates a sort of palimpsest, formally established by the layering of media through live performance and projection, film and video. Featuring Chelsea Hecht and Rachel Gill. Premiered May 4th, 2024 at Arts on Site in New York, NY.
This project was supported, in part, by a Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant. Additionally, this project was made possible by a Ucross Foundation Fellowship in 2023.
